Who are we?
We are Cristina and Mihai. We were both born in quiet places, where nature is just a step away, that is, right behind the house. However, we also tried to give the big city a chance, where we lived for a few years, but it didn't stick with us.
So, after we had had enough of the crowds and the polluted air, we returned to Valea Buzaului. We returned home. And so, from the quiet of the home, Primitiv Foods appeared. We were thinking about what we could get our hands on: a clean, fair product that would bring some peace to the people of the city. A product to proudly represent Valea Buzaului. How did it all begin? The idea of a healthy product was born in 2014. We started from a few hives, we learned what patience and working in peace means. Here we are a few years later with a range of simple and healthy products.
What do we want from our product?
We use honey as nature gives it to us: raw, pure and not thermally or chemically treated. That is, raw honey, as they say now. And to fit all its qualities in one word, we call it righteous honey. And we brag about it. "You hear, but what if...?", we asked ourselves one day over coffee, when we came up with the idea of honey mixes. And so we started playing with different recipes, testing, comparing, organising family tastings, that mix just comes out. And I didn't find just one. I went with the idea of "tasty and healthy" to complement the flavour of righteous honey. This is how we ended up creating a variety of mixes made from simple ingredients, with a special taste and texture.
One product that stands out from our range is the mead: Regina (Queen).
Mead, likely the world’s oldest alcoholic beverage, is created through the fermentation of honey. Similar in strength to wine, it holds a special place in Nordic traditions and was revered as the drink of the Gods in Greek mythology.
Our mead is crafted in a modern, approachable style, featuring a lower alcohol
content that makes it perfect for socialising. It offers a semi-sweet taste with a
subtle effervescence from natural fermentation.
The production takes place in the picturesque Buzaului Valley, close to the Buzaului State Geopark, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We source the finest honey from local beekeepers who have honed their craft over generations. By purchasing a single bottle of our mead, you support the pollination of a million flowers, making it an eco-friendly choice.
Who are small producers and why do we need them?
We belong to this category, from the little league. That is, we are among the people who can still provide healthy food, because they produce it in controlled and limited quantities, so as not to deviate from the quality. And the most important thing is that we do not process the products, because we also want to eat healthy. And that's the way things should stay. Everything is done quietly, in small batches, with respect for consumers and in accordance with food safety standards. We invite you to support small producers, as we are, because we offer the quality that the big processors lose sight of. And at the same time we keep better control over the raw materials used. By supporting small producers, you actually support the local economy and healthy food practices.
