Vivino rating: 4.3 / 5Chateau Purcari is Moldova’s premier winery, founded as early as 1827 when it was granted the title of first official winery in Bessarabia, Moldova’s predecessor. The winery is famed for being a favourite of Queen Elizabeth I, its use of indigenous grapes and its similarities to Bordeaux wine. The two locations are located at a similar latitude and Purcari soils are remarkably similar to those in Bordeaux.
The prestigious Chateau Purcari has a long tradition that dates back to the 18th century when French settlers recognised the similarities in soil and climate between the area surrounding the Afon-Zograf monastery and the Bordeaux wine region. The estate quickly achieved great success and visibility, winning local and international competitions and becoming a supplier to the royal courts of Europe. After the Second World War, the estate began a slow revival and in 2003, the cellar was renovated and 250 hectares of vineyards were replanted.
Nocturne is Chateau Purcari’s latest range of high-quality wines. The grapes for this one were harvested in the dead of night, to preserve their quality and structure.
This elegant rosé is part of the limited edition range Purcari Nocturne Rose, so called because the harvest takes place at night to preserve the aromatic character of the grapes, their freshness and a balanced sugar level. Purcari Nocturne Rose is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Rara Neagra harvested manually and vinified using traditional methods.
In the glass, the wine reveals a clear and bright colour with pink tones and a broad and fragrant aromatic profile with notes of apricot and peach, fresh berries and flowers.
On the palate, it is dry, fruity, bold and soft with a lively acidity and a long and refreshing finish. The wine has an aroma of delicate exotic fruits like papaya, candied fruits, red currants, raspberry, strawberry and sweet cherry with a silky texture. An extended finish, with hints of berries and a balanced, crisp aftertaste, perfect for summer sipping.
