Galicea Mare Old White is a white wine with mature character and classic expression, crafted to showcase the depth and balance achieved through careful winemaking.

In the glass, it displays a straw-yellow colour with subtle golden reflections. The nose is generous and elegant, with ripe white fruit aromas such as pear and apple, dried flowers, and delicate notes of honey and almonds, suggesting roundness and maturity.

On the palate, the wine is velvety and well structured, with beautifully integrated acidity and a generous texture that supports the fruity flavours and subtly creamy nuances. The finish is long, gentle and balanced, with a sense of classic elegance and finesse.

Old White pairs exceptionally well with baked fish, white meat, pasta with delicate sauces and mature cheeses, making it an elegant and composed white wine that is equally suited to thoughtful appreciation.

About the vineyard

In Dolj County, in the commune of Galicea Mare, vineyards and winemaking have been part of local life for more than 100 years. The original winery was built in 1912 by George-Valentin Bibescu, grandson of Wallachian ruler Gheorghe Bibescu and a prominent Romanian aviator. Nearby, 15 hectares of vineyards were planted with varieties grafted at Prince Stirbei's nursery.

Following the winery's inauguration in 1916, the first wines from Galicea Mare were produced. These historic beginnings inspired the significant efforts made in recent years by the winery's current winemaker. Since 2016, Iosefin Florea has financed the renovation of the estate and revived wine production at Mosia Galicea Mare after several decades of inactivity.

Today, the wines produced in Dolj come from more than 40 hectares of vineyards, planted with Romanian and French-origin white and red varieties and traditionally vinified to suit a wide range of tastes.
