Galicea Mare New White Bouquet 2023 is a distinctive blend of Pinot Gris aged for 12 months in fine oak barriques, complemented by Romanian Tamaioasa for added finesse and complexity. Made using wild fermentation, with minimal sulphur and no other additions, this is a rare, authentic and exceptional wine.

This is not an ordinary white wine. It is a carefully crafted blend in which Pinot Gris provides structure and elegance, while Tamaioasa Romaneasca contributes its distinctive floral aromas. Extended ageing in oak adds depth and complexity while preserving the freshness characteristic of the hills of Oltenia.

The philosophy is simple: grapes fermented with wild yeasts, carefully aged in fine oak, unfiltered and without additions.

About the vineyard

In Dolj County, in the commune of Galicea Mare, vineyards and winemaking have been part of local life for more than 100 years. The original winery was built in 1912 by George-Valentin Bibescu, grandson of Wallachian ruler Gheorghe Bibescu and a prominent Romanian aviator. Nearby, 15 hectares of vineyards were planted with varieties grafted at Prince Stirbei's nursery.

Following the winery's inauguration in 1916, the first wines from Galicea Mare were produced. These historic beginnings inspired the significant efforts made in recent years by the winery's current winemaker. Since 2016, Iosefin Florea has financed the renovation of the estate and revived wine production at Mosia Galicea Mare after several decades of inactivity.

Today, the wines produced in Dolj come from more than 40 hectares of vineyards, planted with Romanian and French-origin white and red varieties and traditionally vinified to suit a wide range of tastes.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Pale golden yellow with greenish reflections.

Nose: A complex bouquet of ripe pear, peach, apricot, elderflower, honey and white flowers, complemented by delicate citrus notes and subtle hints of vanilla and fine oak.

Palate: Delicate texture with well-balanced acidity and subtle flavours of white fruit and citrus. Notes of apricot and pear combine with floral nuances and a gentle spicy character. The oak ageing provides structure and depth while maintaining a refreshing character.

Finish: Long and persistent, with nuances of ripe stone fruit, fine oak and a refreshing, elegant finish.

The wine's typical Muscat-like aromatic profile is almost completely softened, allowing a more complex and well-structured wine to emerge, with subtle floral notes.

Vinification & ageing

The grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, followed by careful maturation in oak.

Oak ageing: 12–18 months in oak barriques.

The wine is unfiltered and may develop natural sediment, which is a characteristic of its minimal-intervention winemaking approach and a sign of authenticity.

A gentle 10–15 minute decanting before serving is recommended.
