On the lands of Dolj County, in the village of Galicea Mare, vineyards and wine have been part of local life for over 100 years. The original winery was built in 1912 by George-Valentin Bibescu, the great aviator and grandson of ruler Gheorghe Bibescu. Near the winery were 15 hectares of vineyards planted with grafted varieties from Prince Stirbei’s nursery.
In 1916, following the inauguration of the winery, Romanians enjoyed the first wines from Galicea Mare. These events inspired the tremendous effort invested in recent years by the current winemaker of Galicea Mare Winery.
Since 2016, Iosefin Florea has financed the renovation works and restarted wine production on the Galicea Mare Estate after a break of several decades. The wines produced in Dolj come from more than 40 hectares cultivated with both white and red grape varieties, Romanian and French in origin, traditionally vinified to suit all tastes.
Galicea Mare Elegance Feteasca Neagra is a dry red wine from the 2018 vintage. At first, a sweet touch, quickly overtaken by notes of red forest fruits that evoke Shiraz. Hints of leather and plums, without a trace of Pinot! Robust, intensely aromatic, powerful and rich, bringing together the scents of lavender, hibiscus, pink pepper, wild berries, pomegranates, and the warm dust of oriental bazaars.
Glorious, like an untamed stallion through whose veins flows, unrestrained, the elixir of life. Although robust and concentrated, it is wrapped in soft layers of freshness. A wine with an intense and lingering taste. A proud and noble wine, yet never truly wild!
APPEARANCE: Intense ruby red.
NOSE: A pure Feteasca Neagra with generous aromas of plums, hazelnuts, Moroccan leather, tobacco, and smoky spices.
PALATE: Sweet-and-sour notes with hints of fruit and earthy roots, supported by fine tannins that leave a long and savoury finish.
