Vivino rating: 3.7 / 5The retail range from the Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea itself bears the royal insignia of the lily ribbon. The wines in the Elite range are dry wines with a distinctive character. The grapes used for this range are harvested from an area with calcareous soils and undergo 12 hours of skin-contact maceration. Fermentation is slow and takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16–18°C for 20 days.
Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea Elite Chardonnay is a delightful, fresh and elegant wine that is easy to drink, with a smooth, fruity character and gentle palate.
The estate has 35.3 hectares of Chardonnay, planted at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare. The vines are planted in a north-to-south orientation on calcareous chernozem soil and are trained using the single Guyot pruning method. For this range, parcels producing 8–10 tonnes per hectare are selected.
Winemaking: The grapes are mechanically harvested at night and cooled to 8–10°C before undergoing 12 hours of skin-contact maceration in stainless steel tanks. They are then gently pressed at low pressure.
The resulting must is naturally clarified at temperatures of 5–8°C for 48 hours. This is followed by a slow fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 13–18°C.
The resulting wine is then aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks. Any natural sediment that may appear is a testament to the minimal intervention used in the winemaking process.
