Cramele Recas Bloody Merlot is a dry red wine in the same style as the more familiar Bats Blood. This wine comes from a different vintage (2018) and different terroir. It was released specifically for the celebration of Halloween.
The wine has a unique interactive label with the help of a special application “alive Augmented Reality” installed on a smartphone comes to life with lightning strikes and a flock of bats. The design in black and red tones echoes the legends of Transylvania, glorifying the bloody prince Vlad Tepes.
Grapes are harvested on a site; 50% from the Recas estate in southwest of Transylvania and 50% from the Pestera estate near the black sea. The grapes were harvested from 18 September till 6 October. Gently destemmed and crushed, the grapes were cold macerated for 2 days at 5°C before being inoculated with selected yeast for the alcoholic fermentation which took 3 weeks at 27°C . Gently pressed, centrifuged and then put through a full malolactic fermentation, the wine was then matured for 3 months with French oak staves.
Colour: The wine is characterised by a deep cherry colour.
Taste: Vibrant, floral aroma of spiced plums, vanilla toffees and peppery aromas with a silky, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a long, tangy raspberry finish with elegant tannins. Exceptionally tasty and nicely balanced for sipping or the table.
Aroma: The elegant aroma of the wine is represented by a composition of notes of red berries and spices.
