Le Mat: Innovation and delight in the world of non-alcoholic wines

Meet Le Mat, an innovative alcohol-free alternative to wine and sparkling wine. Le Mat launches the invitation to explore new territory in the world of beverages, a world that combines the joy of living with the pleasure of savouring, with a focus on authentic connections, taste and healthy choices.

Le Mat is the result of the work of a team of professionals with over 10 years of experience in the field of taste and hospitality who collaborated with a UK-based Research, Development and Innovation Institute in a public-private partnership over an 18-month period.

The innovation of Le Mat? Not just wines from which alcohol has been removed, but the whole wine experience has been recreated to deliver a truly delicious product, a combination of cleverly chosen and blended fruits and herbs.

Thus, Le Mat is the result of a desire to create a memorable experience that allows consumers to enjoy every moment to the full.

If it were a person, Le Mat is brave, honest and follows its own path. He is guided by his intuition and inner knowledge, without being influenced by the opinions of others. Like the character of the Fool in the Tarot de Marseille, Le Mat represents the freedom to choose, to create his own rules and to enjoy life in an authentic way.

"But why create another substitute when there are already various options available? We felt there was a lack of a truly delicious non-alcoholic alternative to wine or sparkling wine. After tasting numerous wines, I noticed that the dealcoholisation process often left non-alcoholic wine tasting unsatisfactory. Our ambition was to recreate a wine that was not only alcohol-free, but also healthier and tastier." recounts George Nistor, one of the founders of Le Mat.

In a world where the term "non-alcoholic" is mentioned 81% more often than a year ago (according to Google Trends), Le Mat is at the forefront of a growing global trend. Recent research from IWSR and SPIRITSEUROPE shows a growing popularity of the low-alcohol or non-alcoholic beverage category, leading to an increasing demand for healthier alternatives to traditional drinks. As many as 59% of consumers in the UK order non-alcoholic drinks during evenings out, they alternate them with alcoholic ones, according to a Distill Ventures survey from May 2019. This trend is fuelled by consumers' desire to have more choice and moderate their alcohol consumption.

This global movement is also reflected in sales figures: the market for low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages saw sales of more than $11 billion in 2022, and is forecast to grow by more than a third by 2026, according to an analysis by IWSR Drinks Market published in the Financial Times in March 2023. In this context, Le Mat offers a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional wine, with up to 80% less calories.

Le Mat comes in four varieties:

- SUMMER IN TUSCANY, the non-alcoholic alternative to sauvignon blanc.

As ingredients we used melon juice concentrate, gentian root infusion, white grape juice concentrate, fermented rice extract, rice syrup. We also call it "A Summer Afternoon's Dream", with its melon and leafy green scent, ideal for a brunch with dear friends or just good to enjoy at the beach with lots of ice and a good book.

- MUSE, the non-alcoholic alternative to red wine, with dandelion and lavender infusion, elderberry juice concentrate, red grape juice concentrate, cider vinegar and rice syrup. Muse is for romantic moments, walks and moonlit daydreams.

- GARDEN OF DELIGHT is a non-alcoholic sparkling white wine created for moments worth celebrating with friends and family. Grapefruit juice concentrate, elderflower extract, gooseberry juice concentrate, rice vinegar and rice syrup were used as ingredients.

- GRIT & GRACE is an alcohol free rosé sparkling wine created with "Ladies night out on a road trip" in mind. It contains cranberry juice concentrate, red grape juice, rice syrup and cherry fruit juice concentrate.

Cheers to new beginnings!
