The family legend
In 1954 the young man, Gheorghe Gogota, during his hunting adventure in Maramures village named Valea Stejarului, when running to catch a wild boar, found two local young beautiful sisters gathering plums on their orchards near the forest. George, took his wife one of these beautiful sisters. After enjoying the sublime taste of these plums decides to establish a small family distillery in 1957, in honour of this moment, when after the second World War, Gheorghe Gogota established the first authorised distillery in the village.
Over the years the family continued to produce this artisanal fruit spirit and offer them for tasting to a friend, at the private and corporate events. Being very appreciated, since 2016, Stefan, the son of Gheorghe Gogota, the heritor of this tradition, together with his nephew Andrei, decided to continue the tradition by taking this traditional Horinca to a premium level!
History and tradition
This handcrafted fruit brandy – Horinca, has been produced in the area of Maramures for over 700 years. In the vein of this tradition, Gogota family has improved the technological process creating their own special recipes.
With more than 45 years ago the family began to produce the Horinca from plums for life events and celebrations!
After this period of experience in producing of various distillates, they combine family heritage along with the newest technology and facilities like a fully-licensed distilled spirits plant according with the EU regulations and new & modern processing and bottling operations flux in order to produce the exquisite brandies of many types of fruits especially from plum, apple, pear, wild cherry, quince, horns and grape.
For better blending control and for exquisite quality they distill and age the different aged potion separately, then blend the brandies to achieve a balance of flavours that have length on the palate and a complex depth.
Although La Horincie is a small family business they have a rigorous testing process during the production. Their copper alembic still are traditional since 1957.
Now, Stefan Gogota the son, heritor, along with his nephew (brother) Ioan Andrei Botis, started to rebuild this distillery with modern but traditional production facilities but strictly maintaining the traditional rules. Due to renovation and re-launch of production, our copper pot stills our pot stills are fitted with the modern facilities and especially with the recharred cask (own special patented method) in order to obtain the best and natural maturated premium brandy fully handcrafted in a small family farm, where people and the horinca live by century-old rules!
Their brandy - Horinca
An exclusive double distilled brandy from Transylvania, Maramures-Oas county, handcrafted in traditional copper still, from selected fruit, by an original ancient recipe but matured 3-4 years in recharred french oak casks! It is regarded as the quintessential style of Maramures, patiently hand crafted and nurtured matured under the watchful eye of family tradition heritor.
The fruit distilled brandies are 100% natural, with no sugar or any other aroma added.
Carefully fermenting, patiently distilling cycle, long time maturing, casks preparing .. some of our value which they do not give up and to which they care very much!
Handcrafted in small batches, Horinca is renowned for its elegant and strong spirit, rich and long-lasting taste. Blending comes with a casks strength for rich and sumptuous taste.
